The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a program that was started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students of Basic Sciences to take up research careers in Science. Program Benefits:
A summer program of 1 or 2 weeks where you get to attend lectures by experts and visit scientific research laboratories and institutions.
An identity card is issued to each KVPY fellow. Several national laboratories, universities and other institutions extend special privileges like library, laboratory facilities to KVPY fellows. Institutions which accept KVPY aptitude test scores are, IISC-Bangalore, IIT-Bombay, ICMR-New Delhi, IISER-Kolkata, HBCSE-Mumbai.
Exam Pattern:
The candidates have to go through the 2 stages to be selected in KVPY.
Stage 1: Written Aptitude Test (multiple choice). The test will be conducted at different centers across the country.
Stage 2: Interview (short listed candidates from Stage 1 will be called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection process)

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2020-21 and having secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination.
Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/(+2) (Science subjects) during the academic year 2020-21 and aspiring to join an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences must have secured a minimum of 80%(70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination.
Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic having secured a minimum of 60%(50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Mathematics) in the XIl Standard Board Examination.

Selection Procedure
Aptitude Test: Written aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country. Its weightage is 75% in the final merit list.
Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
